Texture: I love how fuzzy these flowers look!

Find Frames: This place in Mexico frames out my friend perfectly.

Capture Natural Poses: This little boy looks so cute playing in the sand.

Use lighting: I really like how the light makes the contrast and depth really stand out.

Capture Color Contrast: This crane sticks out so well against the dark background.

Capture depth: I really like how the light in the tunnel gets thinner to show the depth of the area.

Get Close: This is one of my favorite photos, I love how the inside of the flower pops out.

Consider Background: This one makes me laugh, when you first look at it 2 of the girls have Halos.
Two Thirds Rule: Having the focus not in the middle of the photo makes this flower more unique.

Capture Relative Size: The little girl is the size of the giraffe's head!

Unit 5 Justification

Description of Project:

I chose to do the independent project for this unit. I created a visual that shows the hierarchy of how quadrilaterals are classified. Every 4 sided closed figure is a quadrilateral. From there you must have more qualities to be the shapes below. The square is at the bottom because it is the most specific. I would use this with my students to show how every rhombus is a parallelogram and a quadrilateral because they are both above the rhombus. I would have my students make notes by the shapes to determine what each shape has as qualities. (i.e. Parallelogram= 2-parallel sides)

I think that heirarchy is correct in your image and that it is very clear and easy to read. The color work well and the boxes are fine without any additional shadows. If you feel that the boxes are too plain, maybe make the shape of each into the shape beign represented. For example, make the box labeled square, a square in shape. The only other comment I have regarding the image is the placement of the title. Having it on the bottom right corner - the last place we look - seems to be out of place. Maybe try centered at the top of the image, that way it keeps with the heirarchy. Great job!

Justification Statements

For my image I used vertical alignment (pg. 128) to show how the quadrilateral covers all of the shapes where as the square is more specific. I was also trying to train the learners to follow the paths of the lines so that they could see the relationships in order to classify all shapes correctly (pg. 127). I also, thanks to my partner, choose to use the shapes as representation of the words (pg. 148). I didn't want to put trapezoid in a rectangle and have my students thinking that a trapezoid has 4 right angles. I think that by using the shapes it makes the visual more relevant to my learners.

Unit 5 First Draft

I chose to do the Independent Activity. This is how we classify quadrilaterals. I choose to do this because I show that the quadrilateral is the highest classification(including all 4 sided figures) and then the square is at the bottom because it is the most specific. Does it show the hierarchy correctly? Do you think that the title gets lost? I put it there because there was so much white space. Also, do you think the color works? Would the boxes look better with a srop shadow or plain how they are? Thanks!

Unit 4 Justification

Description of your project

I choose the challenge activity about color and texture for this unit. I then chose to use the paw print that I frequently use for newsletters and my class website. (We are the AG Bulldogs.) I decided that it would be good to be able to make the paw print more versatile. By changing the color and textures of the same image I could make it fit better with the content that it was with.

I think that this is an excellent image portaying the changes in size, shadow and texture. I think that the drop shadow is very well done but should a bit more pronounced in that it needs to stand out more. The textured paw print is also very good. Maybe increase the contrast? That might draw out the texture more. The only other thing that I noticed is that plain paw print and the drop shadow paw print do not appear to be evenly aligned. I could not decipher if this was due to the addition of the drop shadow or because I am viewing your image on a borrowed laptop screen. Great job!

Justification statements

When editing my paw print with different colors and techniques I was considering how to make it the ground instead of the figure. I thought that it would be good to play with the color and texture so that when I used the paw print on different handouts it would not compete with the figure (pg. 102). I choose to use red because the book stated that you should use colors that help the learner see the big picture (pg. 269) and I thought that I would use this red when it was important that we focus on school spirit (our color is red). Seeing the paw print in red would remind the students and parents of the school color, I may use this on the calender to indicate spirit days, when they should wear red. I used the drop shadow to show dimension (pg. 271), I thought that this would be good for more important documents to draw attention. I also tried out some texture. I choose to keep the texture grey instead of a color so that it didn't distract. I wanted the paw print to have some character but not take away from the figure or message.

Unit 4 First Draft

I chose to do the chapter 11 challenge activity and experiment with changing size, shadows and textures. I decided to do a paw print because it is our school mascot. That way I can use different variations of it on newsletters and other things. Do you think that the shadow should be bigger or is it ok? Also, does the texture make the paw print stand out more or look 3-D? Let me know your thoughts!

Unit 3 Justification

Description:

I choose to do the second challenge activity. I thought that it would be fun and a good way to explore different text options in Adobe. I used Photoshop for my project, but looking back I may have wanted to use Fireworks. I choose the word chilly because I am traveling and experienced an extreme temperature drop! I choose the word swirl, just because I like it! My words would be used to enhance a presentation for upper elementary and above. They may also trigger the meaning of the word or the work that it represents.

Your second draft of chilly is even better than the first. The blue colors of the font and the icicles convey a cold feeling. And the icicles are a nice touch. Maybe changing the icicles that project upwards from the H and the L to project downwards might further the chilly feeling, possibly coming from the top of the Y? Swirl is very swirly and the curlz font that you used projects swirl very well. I don't think there is a better font you could have chosen. The purple works well too. My only suggestion for swirl is to continue with the tolls you chose to use in Photoshop to emphasize the swirled appearance even more. Excellent work!

Justification:

I would use my word design for upper elementary and above. The fonts look very different from handwriting or typeface that they would see in books, so I would not want to use them for younger children. I choose the font rosewood std, a decorative but slightly serif style font (pg.229), because it looked like the font on the side of ice containers in stores. It instantly made me think of cold, which is similar to chilly. I also used the repetition of blue (pg.203) to show how the icicles were connected to the word chilly. I moved all of the icicles to the bottom of the word except one to increase more of the repetition of items. I wanted the item to look like a whole product. When creating the word swirl I decided on the decorative font (Pg. 230) of curlz. I thought that the font established a fun mood. The color purple also set the mood of fun and swirly. I used photoshop to make the letters swirl even more. Overall it was my intention to have swirl look fun but still be legible. I used all decorative, fun fonts because my words were more for conveying meaning then teaching a specific element.

UNIT 3 second first draft

I choose to do the challenge word activity. My audience would be all ages. I choose chilly because of my extreme temperature change from NC to MI. I tried to make it look cold and have icicles. Does it look like that? I choose ice blue because it is the universal color for cold. I also did swirl. I tried to use some photoshop tools to make it curvy. I also used curlz font because it has swirl on each letter. Does it look swirly? I choose purple because it seemed fun and exciting. Let me know what I can do to improve!
